I do like the friend’s interpretation, but honestly, this is only helpful if the regret goes away after you learn from it… Or at least stops haunting you. Me, I still relive every time I said or did something awful or rude to my friends or their parents or whomever, and they pop up without warning and whenever they like. From that time I said that thing to my friend’s mom during the Easter egg hunt last Easter, to that time I said that really horrible thing to my friend in kindergarten. Like, I KNOW not to say those things anymore, so goddammmit, stop with the cringe, BRAIN. Also, kindergarten, Brain, that was waaaaay too long ago, STFU! My coping mechanism is to just mentally say, “Shut up, Felis!” when it happens then think of something else, but there are days when I say it a little too often to be healthy.
