Really.does look like Jetpack was the culprit. (Though on mobile, the “log in optional” pop-up is something of a lie; you need to choose one of the three “log in” – Google Meta Email – the last one requires an address and name though only address is marked as required)
Once a comment does go through, follow-up comments and replies are missing something (in Chrome-Brave, on mobile) though the full desktop interface shows the familiar entry boxes for name*, email*, website, tick boxes, and a “post comment” button.
