The humour is very dark, morbid, and cynical. A depressed person might appreciate it more.

“Do not think that I am not sad, though I laugh. See, I have cried even when the laugh did choke me. But no more think that I am all sorry when I cry, for the laugh he come just the same. Keep it always with you that laughter who knock at your door and say, ‘May I come in?’ is not the true laughter. No! he is a king, and he come when and how he like. He ask no person; he choose no time of suitability. He say, ‘I am here.’” — Dr. Van Helsing, in Dracula by Bram Stoker

“If you’re laughing, you can’t be that depressed” – literally the running commentary in my head.

Same. Even though I know how ridiculous it is.

We don’t normally see your characters smiling here, Clay, so Panel 3 is a gorgeous smile. Absolutely beautiful. =)

    This can be serious business.

I read a newspaper case some years ago about a woman who was on disability benefits payments due to depression, and then lost them, after someone found pictures of her on social media with friends, at the beach, smiling and generally having a good time. This was used as supposed “evidence” in court to “prove” that she wasn’t really too depressed to work, and to kick her off of disability. Infuriating.

If it can cheer her up, I can tell Robin that she looks great! I like a lot the upgrade you did to her character since comic #359

The mom’s comment here is for me the equivalent of walking into a casino, seeing someone hit a payout on slots, and concluding that everyone must be winning all the time.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is all that kept me from killing myself in the 90’s. I still grab every new Rifftrax (same guys) the moment they hit. I get people asking me why I don’t steal it with Bittorrent, and I tell them They can actually make me LAUGH! I need them bad and if they don’t get paid I don’t get to laugh…..

I can relate to this comics. I had moments when I was mostly depressed yet I would laugh if I find something funny. Comments like the mother’s irk me. So are comments like, “But you can function normally when with us” if I tell others i have depression

Every time I enjoy life, I get the same voice in my head that I can’t really be depressed. And I’m sure that voice comes from others telling me that. Like, let me have the few moments I get.
