It is very hard to understand that your mind can refuse to behave unless you experience it firsthand. Most people just brush it as “pull yourself together” or “stop thinking that way” 🙁
And also … let’s everyone agree that medically assisted suicide should be available to people with intolerable physical pain, but if your pain is psychic, we are required to suffer until we are lucky enough to die spontaneously.
RIP Robin Williams, and eczema of the genitals to those who have been trashing his memory all over the Internet. Especially the ones who hounded his daughter off Twitter.
I’m not sure what this is about, either. Lots of people with physical illness handle it badly. They ignore symptoms, skip doctor visits, don’t make lifestyle changes (food and exercise), and cut their loved ones out of the loop. Some of them have affairs, buy expensive cars, or start their own meth lab. With mental illness, esp suicide, as someone pointed out, it’s usually the friends and relatives who are blamed. For not being aware enough, sensitive enough, knowing how to get the victim to therapy and medication. I can imagine these words said about a “mad men” type of 40-something with wife and kids who loses his job and doesn’t know how to handle starting over. I can also imagine some harsh words said about the same 40-something who continues a workaholic lifestyle despite health warnings and dies of a heart attack.
If you read the comments section of obituaries of those who die of physical illness and those who die from suicide, you will know where this is coming from.
After the suicide of Robin Williams, everybody was saying, “Don’t be depressed, talk to ME! I will listen!” Translation: “I will listen when it’s convenient, not if I’m binge watching Netflix or literally have ANYTHING else to do.” Why ask for help?
People that like to judge and label as selfish people who die from suicide need to read William Styron’s Darkness Visible. I hope none of these ignorant fools lose someone to suicide …
The sad sad truth. Sadder still is we do speak up. We SCREAM for help sometimes but people think we are being “dramatic”.
I don’t have many people in my life, but thankfully, they’re all people who will listen when I’m in trouble.

Jeffrey are you in trouble? Why did you post this?
^ some people like to point out hypocrisy, unfairness, and lack of compassion in society for no selfish reason whatsoever

Unless you’re famous, apparently. Then people remember you fondly and act like it was a tragedy that no one can be blamed for.
This strip was completed in July then uploaded while I was away in Canada. The timing of this strip with recent events is just coincidental.

Idribal, Jenny proved your point:(

Cancer and the person instantly gets sympathy. Mental disorders on the other hand…
