You can skip my commentary and go right to the full comic here. This is the end of Raven’s monologue. I don’t think I can add anything here in a commentary to it. As I said in an earlier commentary I wrote this dialogue a while back and I didn’t change much as I was doing it. It’s great in a way to finally see the finished product, but I could really feel Raven’s pain by the end.

A Strawberry Memory page 28 – Final Page
This comic is done! Well, I still have to make a cover for it, and there’s some tweaking I still want to do with it now that I have all the pages in front of me, but as for a complete story, it’s done. There was a lot more I *wanted* to do, I didn’t know this was going to be the last page until I realized it was flowing that way. I had an idea for an epilogue that showed the two of them married with a child, but it seemed like a different story and kind of unnecessary. It really felt like it needed to end on Miss Nightingale’s words in which Wren tells them to herself. The drink being a strawberry daiquiri was something always planned from the beginning but never found a natural way to wedge that information into the story. Now I want to work on Hattie. I’ve had the story planned for two years and now that fall is approaching it feels good to make it a priority. Ghost stories are always better in the fall.
A Strawberry Memory page 27
We must finally be getting near the end if there’s hugging involved! I have to admit I had a lot of possible dialogue for these two characters but scrapped a lot of it because I knew I had to end this comic at some point so I could go on to the next one. I really like these two characters, and it’s a great experience to bring them together in their “origin” story. You can read the entire story here: https://www.claycomix.com/forloveandlight01/
A Strawberry Memory page 26
In this page, Robin and Wren continue their conversation but it takes a more serious turn as Robin tries to warn Wren about going for revenge as it could escalate into a far more dangerous situation for her. You can read the entire story here: https://www.claycomix.com/forloveandlight01/
FOR LOVE AND LIGHT #1 “A Strawberry Memory” page 25
In this page, we move to another locale (whew!) and Robin and Wren introduce themselves. It’s a lot of fun having these two characters meet each other and still keep the continuity intact from the depression comix series. They have a lot to say to each other and they immediately establish how they complement each other — Wren’s strength and Robin’s kindness. FOR LOVE AND LIGHT #1 “A Strawberry Memory” page 24
On to the next page! This page took me to another unexpected direction. For a while, when these two met, I imagined a fight — the drink was initially supposed to spill on Robin, not Wren. It was a much more complicated story then, but somehow it became this. It’s better — Robin is too kind a person to be involved in fights, and in fact she would do whatever she could do avoid them.
